“Catch & Eat” Recap

Nestled in Nagato City, Yamaguchi—where rivers, mountains, and the sea come together—
we hosted “Catch & Eat: A Summer Food Experience for Families,” a one-night, two-day program in July 2025, designed to immerse participants in the region’s natural bounty.

The ultimate nature experience — catching and eating with your own hands.

Just a 10-minute drive from SOIL Nagatoyumoto, the experience began by the riverside, where participants first crafted their own fishing rods using bamboo.
At first, the children seemed a little shy, but as they held their handmade rods and cast their lines into the water, their expressions quickly changed—turning into focused, intent gazes.

It was a moment where both adults and children became fully immersed in nature.
Cheers echoed as fish were caught, and warm smiles spread across faces, creating a gentle and joyful atmosphere.

Some children who were hesitant to even touch the fish at the beginning later found themselves saying, “I want to try!”—a small but meaningful shift.

In the evening, everyone gathered at TARU, the Italian restaurant on the first floor of SOIL Nagatoyumoto.
Using the fish and shrimp they had caught, participants made their own pizzas and shared a simple yet truly special meal together.

One participant shared, “It was an incredible experience where I could see my child grow in just a few hours.”
We will continue creating nature-based experiences that can only be found in this town.

Take a look at moments from the event.
