Zen Meditation Experience at Kojyo-ji Temple

Morning Zazen at Kojoji Temple

Just a 7-minute walk up the stone steps from SOIL Setoda, Kojoji-founded as a training ground for Zen-offers a quiet space to sit under the guidance of the head priest.

In Sōtō Zen, practice centers on zazen (seated meditation), tracing back to the Buddha\'s own training. By settling the body, steadying the breath, and focusing the mind, we aim for gentle alignment of body, breath, and mind. Thoughts will come and go; simply notice them and return to posture and breathing.

Session length: about 30-40 minutes of guided zazen (Whether it feels long or short depends on you.)

After practice, take a short stroll and admire the National Treasure-designated three- storied pagoda. Kojoji also includes viewpoints sketched by painter Ikuo Hirayama- enjoy scenes that feel lifted from his work. As the town wakes up, soak in the calm rhythm of local morning life and begin your day with clarity. Apply Here
